How much can you sell your hair for? The honest answer is that it depends. Length matters, but so do weight, natural colour, texture, treatment history and how the hair was cut.
Selling 6–10 inch hair?
Prarvi considers tied, dry 6–10 inch ponytails from anywhere in the United States. Grey, coloured, bleached, curly and coily hair may all be suitable.
Why published hair prices vary so much
Most public hair-price examples are based on long hair intended for wigs or extensions. Those buyers commonly want hair around 18 inches or longer, so length strongly affects the price.
Shorter hair has different requirements and a different basis for value. A 6–10 inch ponytail may still be considered when it is kept tied, dry, aligned from root to tip and accompanied by a clear treatment history. That is why a price quoted for very long hair cannot be applied directly to a shorter cut.
What determines how much your hair is worth?
Weight
Weight is one of the biggest factors. A thick ponytail can be worth more than a thin ponytail of the same length because it provides more usable hair.
Length
Within Prarvi’s 6–10 inch range, hair closer to 10 inches will generally have more usable length than hair closer to 6 inches. Hair under 6 inches is not usable for this program.
Natural colour
Natural colour affects availability. Grey and salt-and-pepper hair are especially sought after and can be difficult to source because relatively few people think to preserve and sell them before a haircut.
Texture
Straight, wavy, curly and coily hair can all be considered. Availability differs by texture, which can affect an individual quote.
Treatment history
Coloured, bleached, relaxed and keratin-treated hair is not automatically rejected. A written history—what was done, approximately when and how often—helps Prarvi assess whether the hair is suitable.
How the hair was cut
This is the factor you can control most easily. The hair should be banded before cutting, cut above the top band and kept with the root end clearly marked. Loose floor sweepings have no reliable root direction and cannot be accepted.
How to preserve the value before a haircut
- Contact Prarvi before cutting. Send the approximate length, colour, texture, treatment history and clear photos.
- Wait for the next steps. If the hair may be suitable, Prarvi will provide an individual quote and collection instructions.
- Band the hair while it is dry. Place a tight elastic near the scalp and a second band lower down for longer sections.
- Cut above the top band. The band should remain on the ponytail.
- Mark the root end. Tape or a different-coloured band makes the direction clear.
- Keep one person’s hair in one bag. Include the completed collection record and never combine hair from different people.
Why Prarvi quotes each ponytail individually
A flat price would ignore the differences between two submissions. One ponytail may be longer but lighter; another may be shorter, heavier, naturally grey and supported by a complete service history. Prarvi reviews the combination of factors instead of advertising a price that will be wrong for many sellers.
The first step is therefore an assessment, not a commitment. Send the details and photos before cutting. If the hair is not suitable, Prarvi will tell you rather than ask you to post it unnecessarily.
Common questions about selling hair
Can I sell coloured or bleached hair?
Possibly. Treated hair can be considered when you provide a clear history of what was done and approximately when.
Can I sell short hair?
Prarvi considers tied ponytails in the 6–10 inch range. Hair under 6 inches is not usable for this program.
Can I sell grey hair?
Yes. Natural grey and salt-and-pepper hair are especially wanted.
Can I sell hair from anywhere in the United States?
Yes. Prarvi accepts enquiries nationwide and provides posting instructions for accepted hair.
Should I cut the hair before asking for a quote?
No. Contact Prarvi first so the hair can be reviewed and you can receive the correct cutting and collection steps.
Ready to find out what your hair may be worth?
Start with the details and photos. There is no obligation, and payment is made only after Prarvi receives, inspects and accepts the hair under the collection agreement.
