Sell your hair — we buy 6–10 inch hair
Most hair buyers want 18 inches and up. We want the length they turn away.
Prarvi supplies research tresses to cosmetic and product-testing laboratories — companies that test shampoos, conditioners, colour and repair products on real human hair. That work needs 6–10 inch hair. It is the length left on the floor after most haircuts, and it is exactly what we are looking for.
We pay the person whose hair it is, and we pay the salon for collecting it correctly. We buy from anywhere in the United States — you post it to us, so you do not need a hair buyer near you.

How to cut it
This part matters more than anything else. Laboratories need every fibre running the same direction, so the hair must be tied before it is cut and the root end must stay identifiable.
- Agree it first. The person whose hair it is must know it will be sold for laboratory research testing, and must agree in writing. We provide the form.
- Band it dry, before cutting. Gather the section and put an elastic band tightly around it close to the scalp. Add a second band a few inches below for longer sections.
- Cut above the band — on the scalp side — so the band stays on the cut section and holds the root end together.
- Mark the root end. Wrap tape around the banded end, or use a coloured band there. If we cannot tell root from tip, the hair is not usable.
- Write down the history. Colour, bleach, relaxer, perm, keratin, heat styling. From the client record where you have one — it is more reliable than memory, and it is part of what we pay for.
- Bag it dry. One ponytail per bag, the record with it. Paper envelope or sealed bag, as long as the hair is fully dry.

Can I sell my hair?
If it is 6–10 inches, cut as a tied ponytail, clean and completely dry, then yes. It does not need to be untreated — coloured, bleached, relaxed and keratin-treated hair are all wanted, as long as you can tell us the history. Grey and salt-and-pepper are especially wanted.
Where can I sell my hair?
To us, from anywhere in the United States. You post it — there is no need to find a hair buyer near you. Most hair marketplaces only accept 18 inches and up, which is why shorter cuts are usually turned away. Those are the ones we want.
How much can I sell my hair for?
It depends on the hair, and it is worth understanding why — because most of the figures you will find online do not apply to what we buy.
There are two separate markets for cut hair. Long hair, roughly 18 inches and up, goes to the wig and extension trade, where it is priced mainly on length. That is where nearly every published "sell your hair" figure comes from. Short hair, 6–10 inches, goes to laboratory research — a different buyer, a different use, and a different basis for value. Comparing the two is misleading, which is one reason we do not publish a flat rate.
What actually sets the value in our market:
- Weight. The single biggest factor. A thick ponytail is worth considerably more than a thin one of the same length.
- Length within the 6–10 inch band. Closer to 10 is generally worth more than closer to 6.
- Natural colour. Grey and salt-and-pepper are the most sought after and the hardest to source, because laboratories need them for grey-coverage and dye studies and very few people sell them.
- Texture. Curly and coily hair is scarcer in research supply than straight.
- Treatment history — and whether it is documented. Coloured and bleached hair is genuinely wanted, because laboratories need damaged hair as a test condition. Hair with a written history of what was done to it, and when, is worth more than identical hair with an unknown past. This is the factor most sellers do not expect.
- How it was cut. Tied before cutting with the root end marked, or loose. Loose hair with no root direction is worth a fraction of the same hair cut properly, and often nothing at all.
Those combine differently in every submission, which is why we quote individually rather than publish a price list that would be wrong for most people who read it.

Can I sell short hair?
Short is exactly what we are looking for. A bob or lob cut in the 6–10 inch range is our core material. Under 6 inches we cannot use.
