Worried about fake, synthetic, or non-Remy hair sold as the real thing? You should be — it's common in this industry. No supplier can truly certify the temple or donor a strand came from, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we can do is show you how to evaluate human hair quality yourself, and back it with a sample before you commit.

Remy vs. non-Remy

Remy hair keeps all cuticles intact and aligned in the same direction (root-to-tip), the way it grew. This is what prevents matting and gives natural movement and longevity. Non-Remy hair is collected with cuticles running in mixed directions; to stop the resulting tangling, it's often stripped in an acid bath and then coated in silicone to feel smooth in the package. That coating washes off within a few washes, revealing dry, tangle-prone hair.

Practical checks you can do

  • Cuticle direction: Pinch a strand and slide your fingers from tip to root, then root to tip. Aligned Remy hair feels smoother in one direction than the other. Hair that feels identical both ways has likely had its cuticle stripped.
  • Silicone-coating test: Wash a small section with a clarifying shampoo. Silicone-coated non-Remy hair feels great new, then turns dry, dull, and tangly once the coating rinses out. Genuine Remy stays consistent.
  • Tangling & shedding: Gently comb a wet section. Excessive shedding or knotting at the roots is a red flag. Some shedding is normal; continuous matting is not.
  • Burn test (a small cutting): Real human hair burns slowly, smells like burnt feathers, and leaves a fine ash you can crush. Synthetic fiber melts into a hard bead and smells like plastic.
  • Processing status: Ask whether the hair is virgin (unprocessed), single-donor, or blended from many sources. Blended and heavily-processed hair behaves less predictably over time.

How Prarvi approaches it

Our hair is South Indian temple-sourced, single-donor, and cuticle-aligned (Remy) — never blended. We don't claim a lab certification or chain-of-custody we can't provide. Instead we let the hair prove itself: order a small sample, run the checks above, and decide before any larger or wholesale order.
