Planning a sew-in or a wig and stuck on the closure-vs-frontal question? You’re not alone. Both give you that “growing straight from my scalp” finish — they just do it differently. Here’s the no-jargon guide to picking the right one.

The quick answer
| Lace Closure | Lace Frontal | |
|---|---|---|
| Covers | A section at the part/crown (4×4 or 5×5) | The whole hairline, ear to ear (~13×4) |
| Parting | One area | Anywhere — plus pull-backs & ponytails |
| Bundles needed | Fewer | About 2–3 |
| Hairline/edges | You leave your own edges out | Recreates the whole hairline (great for thinning edges) |
| Price | Budget-friendly | Pricier |
| Best for | Simple, natural, low-maintenance | Versatile styling & off-the-face looks |
Lace closure: the low-key MVP
A closure is a small piece (usually 4×4″ or 5×5″) that covers the crown and part with a scalp-like lace or silk base. You blend your own edges around it.

- Less maintenance — and protective, so your own hair rests underneath.
- Blends in easily and lets you part within that zone.
- Budget-friendly and beginner-friendly.
→ Shop lace closures (incl. kinky/curly and natural-wave).
Lace frontal: the versatility queen
A frontal is basically half a wig — about 13×4″, spanning ear to ear. It recreates your entire hairline, so you can part anywhere, slick it back, or rock a high ponytail.
- A flawless, seamless hairline — ideal if your edges are thinning.
- Part it anywhere; brush it straight back into a pony.
- Needs only a couple of bundles. (It does cost more than a closure.)

So… which is right for you?
- Want simple, natural, budget-friendly with the focus on the part? → Closure.
- Want to switch your part, wear it off your face, or cover thinning edges? → Frontal.
- Living for 360 ponytails and updos? → 360 frontal.
Quick FAQ
How long do they last? With gentle care and 100% human hair, a year or more.
Can I dye or heat-style them? Yes — it’s real human hair (use a pro for lightening).
Should I bleach the knots? Optional — it makes the base look even more scalp-like; have a pro do it.
